Bannerblog: BK: Dollar Menu Augmented Reality Banner

  • Tom Hardwidge · 2 months ago
Yeah, great to finally see AR getting into the online advertising scene. You don't even need a $1 dollar bill. I used a piece of white card roughly the same shape and it picked it up fine.

It'll be awesome when Flash 9+ penetration increases and we can start seeing immersive, 3D AR ads. :)

Can we all just agree to stop making pointless AR like this?
  • mrtruffle · 2 months ago
I don't think we can make that deal. You have to offer something in return besides respect of the digital industry :)

Try with something the same dimensions as a one dollar bill... It has to have some reseblance to one though... It'll surely work.

Good idea. I tried my notebook and it didn't like that will try harder

This ad is awesome, had a $1 bill to try, when i realized what was happening I thought cool it's reading my $1 bill. Pull out a $5 to see what i could get for $5 but they still gave me the $1 menu. was a little disappointing but still pretty cool.

That's because the USD fell in value in such a short time :)

Hey, apparently, you get a surpise ending after flipping the bill three times.
  • mrtruffle · 1 month ago
I got a $1 and just tested, ahh it tracks your head.

LOL. It turns you into some kind of freaky, masked bank robber. Nice Easter egg.

Ok, so it's not the most functional piece of AR out there, but it's a fun new way to engage with users.

Only criticisim would be to offer an alternative 'don't have a webcam?' button, so everyone else would get an experience from it.

Tom is absolutely right though, it's great to see AR coming into banners now and with the potential of more banners using flash 9, we'll see some proper augmented reality devices being used.

    Exciting times ahead...

Ashley - if you go to Google images, you can print a copy off and the ad works just fine. Is an interesting development - will be good to see further progress using AR in advertising

Couldn't get my iSight to load on this thing...
Great to offer Augmented Reality, but much better if it's user friendly and tested accross all plateforms

Really cool execution of an augmented reality banner ad, a wonderful way to execute engaging messages with the target audience. Very good! Wish I had thought of that idea! Please note that in order to test you need a US $1 bill.

you don't need a dollar bill to see it. any piece of paper with an aspect ratio somewhat similar to that blur rectangle will do. Just tried with a Canadian $20 bill and it works. Oh, and also with a folded parking ticket. Wonder if I can get a whopper for that. :D

Works also with a 5€ bill or a printed paper shaped as a bill.
