Bannerblog: Smart: Weather

    Yeah could be a fake but even if it isn't, the fact that we can't tell means that it's not using the information to the best of its ability.

    Maybe it could zoom in for more accuracy, or use an IP check to get the weather in the local area?

    I like the way that the weather's tied in with the car choice. It would probably work better for a car rental firm though, as the insight of people buying a car based purely on today's weather is dubious.

    It looks mostly cloudy and rainy because it's for the UK in October!!

    It's not October in the UK!

    @Simon To be honest, I thought it probably was live data (judging by the last Twitter banner which came out of Weapon 7's offices I'd expect nothing less), the point I was making was that it wasn't obviously genuine.

    There's a lot of faux banners out there, and finding a way to be clearly kosher without being contrived is often the trickiest part of an honestly hard-working and functional banner.

    Granted there was a lot more to contend with on this project, as Ash said "it seems to always be cloudy or raining", that's just the UK for you... but it also highlights just how hard the creative has to work in order to dispel the skeptics.

    @Johnny I'm pretty sure it's October everywhere :)

    Hi Tom, how goes it? Just for the record, the weather forecasts definitely aren't fake; they're pulled in live and updated every hour using information supplied from the MET Office. Cheers.
